Yoga Yard Haslem Architects

This project, photographed recently, was a really satisfying project to work on. The design is a great example of what really excellent Architects can bring to a project. It is situated on tight site that had been used as a mechanics yard and office. Mike Haslam and the team have transformed the site into a sanctuary for hot yoga. The Yoga yard is a hot yoga studio created by yoga teacher and founder Anne Parsons.

The site consists of two hot yoga studios with a courtyard and a refurbished terrace building.

The building creates a a series of calm and nature filled spaces which conceal an ingenious technological design to make the building perform thermally. The building is a highly insulated thermal mass with heat recovery units ventilating the spaces. This is supplemented by solar PV to power the heat pumps and a backup boiler for those especially chilly days.

Meeting the owner was a really rewarding experience and it was great to see how invested everyone was in the scheme. I was even tempted to venture to a hot yoga class but sadly I haven’t managed it to date, however I do mean to go as the atmosphere in the spaces is so uplifting.
